Hillbilly Ranch opens.

Operated by Italian immigrant Frank Segalini, it is located at today’s 56 Park Plaza (then 25 Eliot Street). The first country & western and bluegrass club in Boston, it becomes known for its rustic features. Regular performers include Joe Val and the New England Bluegrass Boys and John Lincoln Wright and the Sour Mash Boys. I closes in 1980. After its attempt to move to the new Charles River Park area is opposed by developer Jerome Rappaport, who calls it a “Combat Zone operation” the club is destroyed by a fire in January 1980
